Word is a word. Is there a word for that?
Brains are weird. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I love having one. But sometimes brains play tricks on us. They create blind-spots. Or they succumb to optical illusions. (Did you know there are auditory illusions, too?)
Sometimes they keep us awake when we want to sleep. Other times they make us sleepy when we want to stay awake. And then there’s this thing they do with language. I think everyone can recall a time when this has happened to them. You’re typing an essay, assignment, article, what have you. And you come to this word over and over again. You get hung up on how it’s spelled. Maybe you say it out loud or sound it out in your head. And then word starts to feel alien somehow. Is this English? Am I spelling this right? Is this even a…
